The Steel Architectural Awards ASEAN 2026 was officially launched at a symposium held in Jakarta on 27 November, themed “Shaping Resilient Futures: Timeless Design with Coated Steel.” The event gathered around 190 industry representatives from five ASEAN countries and Australia, creating a dynamic platform for design leaders to exchange ideas and strengthen regional collaboration.
Building on the success of the inaugural 2024 edition, which recognised five outstanding winners from across ASEAN, the 2026 program aims to further raise the benchmark for excellence in steel-based architecture across the region.
“Indonesia has a strong and influential design heritage. It is an honour to launch this program here alongside leading architects who share a common passion for design excellence through steel solutions,” said Ar. Georgius Budi Yulianto, President of the Indonesian Institute of Architects (IAI).
The Steel Architectural Awards ASEAN 2026 is presented by BlueScope in partnership with respected institutions, including The Association of Siamese Architects under Royal Patronage (ASA) in Thailand, Ikatan Arsitek Indonesia (IAI), the University of Architecture Ho Chi Minh City (UAH) in Vietnam, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), and AustCham Singapore.
Entries will be assessed by a distinguished judging panel appointed by the partners, comprising Ar. Asae Sukhyanga, President of ASA Thailand; Ar. Firman Setia Herwanto, Vice President of IAI; Ar. Dr. Truong Nguyen Hoang Long, Head of the Division of Environment and Sustainable Design at UAH, Vietnam; Ar. Dr. Serina Hijjas, Principal of Hijjas Kasturi Associates Sdn. Bhd Malaysia; and Ar. Geoff Croker, Principal of fjcstudio, Australia.
Ar. Asae Sukhyanga, President of the Association of Siamese Architects under Royal Patronage (ASA), noted that the ASEAN Steel Architectural Awards 2026 will provide a broader platform for architects across four ASEAN countries, including Thailand, to exchange insights, explore cross-border ideas, and showcase timeless, sustainable design through the use of high-quality building materials. The awards feature four categories—Industrial; Commercial; Residential; and Institutional, Public & Others—and are open to completed projects in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam that utilise BlueScope’s steel solutions.
“The ASEAN Steel Architectural Awards 2026 is a platform to recognise the architects and industry professionals behind many of the region’s outstanding projects. Through this program, we also aim to strengthen collaboration with the Australian design community, supporting cross-regional knowledge exchange, innovation, and professional growth across Southeast Asia,” said Connell Zhang, Chief Executive of NS BlueScope and BlueScope China.
