GOR Djarum Magelang, located in Magelang, Central Java, is a masterpiece designed by architect Michael Kristianto and has been nominated for the 2024 Steel Architecture Award. Built to support sports activities while also serving as a symbol of commitment to developing young badminton talent, this building integrates world-class technical sports requirements with modern architectural aesthetics.
Getting to Know the GOR Djarum Magelang Project
Constructed by the Djarum Foundation as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, GOR Djarum features five badminton courts designed for nurturing school-age talent in the Magelang area. With the vision of creating a generation of resilient badminton athletes, the facility is built to meet the standards set by the Badminton World Federation.
Characteristics of GOR Djarum Magelang
The design of GOR Djarum Magelang is based on complex technical needs. The standout feature of the building is two giant shuttlecock replicas that adorn its façade. These shuttlecocks not only serve as a visual icon but also function as resting areas for athletes and souvenir sales areas.
Inside the building, the oxygen level is carefully maintained for both athletes and spectators. To ensure that the movement of the shuttlecock remains uninterrupted, the wind speed inside the hall is regulated to less than 1 knot, in accordance with All England tournament standards.
The lighting system is installed with precision to prevent glare that could distract the players while also providing a comfortable visual experience for the audience. All of this has been designed with budget efficiency in mind, without compromising the quality of the facilities.
BlueScope Products Used in GOR Djarum Magelang
To support the modern design and meet technical requirements, GOR Djarum Magelang uses materials from BlueScope, including COLORBOND(R) in Caulfield Green. This material is applied to the roof covering and the building’s interior.
COLORBOND(R) was selected due to its high durability. Additionally, this lightweight material helps maintain a stable indoor temperature thanks to Thermatech® technology. BlueScope’s resistance to corrosion is also noteworthy, even when exposed to extreme weather conditions.
