Indonesia Arena stands as a new landmark in Indonesia's sports and architectural world. Designed by Ar. Rafael David Pasaribu, this arena is not only a symbol of national pride but also the winner of the prestigious 2024 Steel Architecture Award in the Infrastructure, Institutional & Others category.
Introducing the Indonesia Arena Project
Indonesia Arena was developed to meet the demands of hosting international sports competitions, such as the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup. Located in the strategic Lot 10 area within the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Complex, the stadium boasts a capacity of over 16,000 spectators.
This multi-purpose stadium is designed to adapt to various needs. From volleyball and badminton to ice hockey and large-scale concerts, Indonesia Arena offers unparalleled flexibility while meeting international standards.
Characteristics of Indonesia Arena
One of the most captivating features of Indonesia Arena is its architectural design, which blends modern elements with local cultural values. The stadium showcases two complementary design expressions:
- Podium Design: Incorporates traditional elements from the GBK Complex, including repetitive columns, wide eaves (tritisan), and a dominant white color scheme.
- Circular Facade: Features metallic layers in a golden hue, projecting a modern look while establishing a new identity.
The building's basket-like geometry symbolizes Indonesia's rich craft traditions. The traditional weaving technique is reflected in the interlaced façade patterns, creating a distinctive texture that defines the stadium's character.
BlueScope Products Used for Indonesia Arena
Indonesia Arena incorporates cutting-edge materials, including BlueScope’s COLORBOND® in Gull Grey color. For the main roof, Locked Seam Metal Roof Covering is employed, offering exceptional durability and resilience. This material withstands extreme weather conditions while providing optimal protection for the stadium's structure.
