The Mayora Head Office Canteen, designed by architect Alexander Hudianto Wibowo, is a perfect example of organic design that emphasizes harmony between architecture and its natural surroundings. Nominated for the 2024 Steel Architecture Award, this canteen design successfully combines functionality with aesthetic beauty.
Introducing the Mayora Head Office Canteen with Organic Design
The Mayora Head Office Canteen was designed to serve more than 800 employees and executives at the Mayora headquarters. With the "oasis" concept at the heart of its design, this building provides a fresh and comfortable atmosphere amidst the hustle and bustle. Its organic structure blends seamlessly with the surrounding landscape, complementing the overall design of the headquarters.
The canteen is divided into two wings. The main wing serves as the canteen for staff, while the second wing is designed more exclusively for executives. Between the two wings lies a plaza with a reflective pool and towering trees, which extend up to a skylight on the roof.
Characteristics of Mayora Head Office Canteen
The Mayora Head Office Canteen features two distinct characteristics. The staff canteen has a diameter of around 40 meters. This main dining area is designed in a circular shape with a small stage in the center. The combination of large glass walls and skylights creates a bright and airy interior.
The executive canteen, on the other hand, offers a more private atmosphere. With materials such as marble, porcelain panels, and artistic wallpaper, the interior design creates a luxurious feel.
The use of steel structures and lightweight steel roofing was selected for design flexibility, allowing for the curved roof shape resembling a turtle shell. This design also supports a spacious, column-free dining area for the staff canteen.
BlueScope Products Used for Mayora Head Office Canteen
One of the key elements in this design is the use of steel framing and lightweight steel roofing from BlueScope, specifically COLORBOND®. These products allow the roof to curve in a turtle-shell shape, which has become the building's distinctive feature. The durability, ease of shaping, and ability to create column-free spaces make this material a perfect fit for the project.
